According to Minsait’s report, 67% of industrial sector companies are already using Decision AI or Decision Intelligence in their decision-making processes. Recently, at Baobab, we had the opportunity to bring together industry leaders at our event, “Smart Industry: AI and Digital Transformation,” where real-world experiences and practical applications of Decision AI were shared.
AI in decision-making: not the future, but the present
Artificial intelligence is no longer just a futuristic promise—it’s a practical and accessible solution today. The rise (and hype) of Generative AI has shown us how content creation can be revolutionized. But Decision AI, while part of the broader AI umbrella, represents a different kind of revolution.
Decision AI can solve highly complex real-world problems in logistics, infrastructure, procurement, sales, and manufacturing/production. This technology helps companies optimize resources, cut costs, and make more accurate, real-time decisions.
Pablo Castiella, co-founder & managing partner, emphasized the importance of human talent in adopting these tools: “Successfully implementing disruptive technologies requires building a committed community focused on solving specific industry challenges.”

Decision AI in action: how AI enhances decision-making

Smarter railways: Pablo Garrido (Talgo) demonstrated how AI anticipates logistical issues before they arise, optimizing resources and cutting operational costs: “With Decision AI, we don’t just detect problems in advance—we find immediate solutions that maximize efficiency.”
Optimized aerospace manufacturing: Tamara Borreguero (Airbus) explained how Decision Intelligence enhances energy efficiency and optimizes production lines using predictive maintenance tools, significantly improving operational performance.

Better energy management: Álvaro Ortiz (Ormazabal) highlighted the importance of data quality: “80% of AI success depends on correctly recording the data.” Machine learning has helped Ormazabal improve process precision and efficiency.
Logistics and distribution optimization: Jorge Mérida Lozano (Nippon Gases) shared how AI-powered route optimization has revolutionized their supply chain, solving complex logistical challenges and generating significant cost savings.

The key is in the strategy
During an insightful roundtable discussion, industry experts delved into the importance of understanding customer needs, data relevance, and its impact on decision-making.
Juan Carlos Mani (Gurobi Optimization) emphasized: “Effective optimization efficiently manages complexity through advanced prescriptive analytics.”
Evgeny Gravilenko (Nippon Gases) highlighted that predictive maintenance tools provide long-term value by reducing costs and preventing issues before they happen.
Raimundo Gonzalo (Alcampo) closed the conversation by stressing the need for deep process understanding to make effective business decisions.
