A group of Spanish and Portuguese researchers have developed software capable of individually identifying each of the 100 fish in a school of zebrafish based solely on their physical appearance.

They used a combination of neural networks for deep learning and algorithms. This type of software could potentially be used to identify a specific person in a crowd based on information about their physical appearance.
