In recent years, the Spanish energy industry has experienced a series of significant changes; where decarbonization, digitalization and decentralization are the main trends that are transforming the sector.

In this context, AI plays an increasingly relevant role, as it offers energy companies new opportunities to improve their efficiency, reduce their costs and increase their competitiveness.

1.-Decarbonization

Currently, decarbonization is one of the main priorities of the Spanish energy sector, since the Governments of the countries belonging to the European Council, including Spain, have committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Taking into account the absence of its own energy resources such as oil or gas, Spain has promoted investment and development of renewable energy and the application of tools such as Artificial intelligence, since it has been proven that they can help energy companies predict renewable energy production, plan network management, improve the integration of renewable energies in the electrical system, and optimize energy generation at both a strategic level as operational, among other use cases.

2.-Digitalization

Another key trend in the energy industry is digitalization, as it has the potential to significantly improve business processes, including the automation of data entry, the optimization of decision-making through predictive analytics and prescriptive and the automation of traditionally manual operations.

3.-Decentralization

Decentralization is the third key trend in the energy industry, as consumers are increasingly interested in producing their own energy. This is leading to the development of new technologies, such as smart grids and home batteries. This is why it is expected that in the coming decades network management and energy supply will become more important.
